V-Ball Looks to Bounce Back

The Shorewomen enter this weekend’s competition against Arcadia and Delaware Valley with an overall record of 1-7.

The Shorewomen fell at home to Franklin & Marshall in the Volleyball home opener 0-3 (31-29,25-19,25-19). A hitting error by Washington College gave the F & M the opportunity to win the first of the three sets. In the second set, sophomore Rita Rivera gave the Shorewomen an edge with an ace, overpowering the Diplomats early in the set. The Diplomats were able to come back and edge out the Shorewomen 25-19. The third set saw another early lead by the Shorewomen 7-5 with a kill by team captain Maria Whitman. Unfortunately, WC fell 25-19.

On Sept. 9, the Shorewomen met Stevenson University and fell 25-11, 25-15, 25-14. Against the Mustangs, sophomore Madeline Meyers had six kills and hit .312 in the match.

On Sept. 11 at Catholic University, the Shorewomen lost to Catholic 0-3 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) as well as their first match to Shenandoah 3-1 (25-17, 25-14, 13-25, 25-17).  In the match against Catholic, Rivera collected 13 digs and sophomore Kaitlin Rowan added an additional 10 digs. The match also resulted in the second double-double of the year for sophomore Jenny Lee with 11 kills and 10 digs.  Freshman Lauren White now leads the team in assists with 27.  The match against Shenandoah saw Rivera with 12 digs and Rowan added an additional 10 digs.

Overall the Shorewomen are 0-1 in the Centennial Conference. They return to action this weekend with three games on Saturday at Penn State-Berks and two games on Sunday at the Wolverine Invitational at Wesley.
