The Washington College men’s tennis team was defeated 6-3 by Franklin & Marshall last Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Shoremen fell to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.
Washington won one of their three doubles matches to start the day down 2-1. Senior Aaron Ellison and senior Kevin Papen were defeated 8-6 at No. 1, while sophomore Marc Cywinski and freshman Vishnu Rajes were defeated 9-8(6) at No. 2. Freshman Dan Boaté and graduate student Andrew Laux won their match 8-3 at No. 3.
The Diplomats extended their lead to 4-1 with a victory over Rajes 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and a win against Cywinski 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. F&M clinched the victory with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win over Boaté at No. 3. Washington picked up its second point with a 6-1, 6-0 win by Ellison at No. 5. Papen was defeated in a three-set match at No. 1, 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-2, and senior Kyle Lisco beat Alec Tunner 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 to provide the final margin.
The Shoremen return to action Saturday with an 11 a.m. Centennial Conference match at Muhlenberg College.
