After closing out their 2014 seasons 8-9 and 4-12, respectively, the men’s and women’s tennis teams have rebounded to start off their 2015 season with perfection. The Shoremen currently stand at 6-0 while the women have already surpassed their win total from last season, beginning the spring 5-0.
The Shoremen’s domination began on their spring break trip to Florida where they defeated Daemen, 8-1, and Northwestern, 9-0. Following the trip, the Shoremen would only fall in one set in their next three matches as they took down Texas-Dallas, McDaniel, and York by a combined score of 23-1.
In singles, freshman Justin Panepinto has been the highlight of the season as he’s started off the season 8-1, while posting a 5-1 record in doubles with sophomore Zachary Novick. Fellow twin Jeremy Novick has begun his sophomore year on a bright note as well, standing at 5-2 in singles.
What might be most impressive about the tennis program this season is the Shorewomen’s turnaround, as they’ve already totaled one more win than they recorded last season. Similar to the Shoremen, a freshman has been leading the charge for the Shorewomen. Krista Filiopoulos is 8-1 overall in singles this season while posting a 5-0 record in doubles with fellow freshman Julie Lazer. After finishing last season 15-5 in singles, junior April Weaver has started the 2015 season right where she left off as she stands at 5-2.
As both the men and women are 1-0 in the conference, their schedules will now hit a stretch of conference opponents, with the men and women slated to play away at Franklin and Marshall (March 28) and Haverford (March 31.)
