After posting nine straight defeats, the Shorewomen softball team entered their weekend Centennial Conference doubleheader against Dickinson with a 5-11 overall record, and an 0-4 record in the CC. The Shorewomen were looking to improve their record when they faced off against the Red Devils on Saturday.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Shorewomen started off the scoring early with a 3-0 lead in the first inning, with help from senior Kelsey Graham, junior Paige Briganti, freshman Hannah Spohn, and senior Suzanne Patinella. Washington College would go on to score two more runs in the third and fifth inning to take the 5-0 victory in game one.
In the second game, it was Dickinson who got on the board first in the top of the second inning, yet the Shorewomen answered quickly in the bottom of the second when a bunt by freshman Taylor Harcum brought home Patinella to level the score at 1-1. The run by the Red Devils would be the last of the game for them, as the Shorewomen scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth with help from Harcum, who doubled to bring home Patinella and sophomore Gina DeAngelis. Junior Clare Hofstedt would contribute as well, hitting a single to send senior Christine Anderson to home plate. WC would go on to score four more runs to win the game 8-1, completing the sweep of Dickinson two games to nothing.
The Shorewomen improved to 2-4 in the CC with the victories. They hope to keep up their momentum when they face off against Rowan in a double-header at home on April 9. The games will be played at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
