The hearing for SB-938, which concerns the ability of the Public Service Commission (PSC) to approve construction of wind farms without the approval of the Kent County Commissioners, was held on April 7 at 1 p.m.
During the first panel to speak in support of the bill, Sen. Stephen Hershey was joined by Kent County Commissioners William Pickrum, Ron Fithian, and Bill Short, former Congressman Wayne Gilchrist, and Interim President of Washington College Jay Griswold.
An article in the Kent County News published on Thursday, April 9 introduced the perspectives of farmers, the local business council, and conservation organizations in addition to those who were present at the hearing. Those in support of Sen. Hershey’s bill argue that the PSC should not be able to approve a request for construction a wind farm based on “public convenience and necessity” according to the text of SB 938.
