On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Washington College field hockey team honored their eight seniors during the home game against Gwynedd Mercy University. The eight seniors are Olivia Auer, Morgan Domanico, Nicole Schroyer, Alison Pantazes, Maggie Cancelmo, Clare Ingersoll, Sabrina Jenkins and Emily Pantazes.

The match ended in a hard-fought loss for the Shorewomen with a 0-1 final score.  The only goal of the game was scored by Gwynedd Mercy freshman attackman Lauren Jani in the first half.  However, the Shorewomen came close with a total of 12 shots, six of which were on goal, but were not able to come back to tie up the match.

Senior Olivia Auer said she appreciated the extent to which the returning team members went to make the game memorable for the senior class.

“The game was super nice; the team puts so much time and effort into making it special for the seniors. The game was great and we have been having a lot of fun playing together and making the season memorable.”

Similarly, senior Clare Ingersoll said, “I don’t think any of us seniors thought this day would actually happen, and it all felt pretty surreal. We are lucky to have had the opportunity to play a team as competitive as Gwynedd Mercy. The 1-0 loss was tough but we were able to play our game and have fun celebrating our time as members of such a special team.”

However, this will not be the last game for the Shorewomen, nor for their seniors, as their 2018 season still has a remaining two games to complete their regular season.

On Wednesday, Oct. 24 the Shorewomen will take on Ursinus College on their home field, while returning to the Pennsylvania area the following Saturday, Oct. 27 where they will make their final appearance of at Muhlenberg College.
