On Tuesday, Feb. 19, the Shorewomen traveled to York, Penn. to open their season against the York College Spartans, making this the first game for the 2019 team as well as Head Coach Kate Fowler. Newly added to the program, Fowler transitioned to Washington College from No. 1 in Division III, Gettys- burg College.

Coming into the game, the Shorewomen were the underdogs as York is ranked sixth overall in DIII women’s lacrosse.

The Spartans won 16-9 in a highly competitive and contested game for both teams.

Senior goalie Isabella Richardson said she wanted to do whatever she could in her position in order to help the team win.

Out of 27 shot attempts, Richardson tallied 11 saves. e game had high energy and competitiveness the entire game for both sides.

“For me, I just wanted to contribute as much as I could to my team,” Richardson said. It can be a tough position to be in when you are faced with a challenging team. Richardson said this will help their overall season for Centennial Conference games.

“Starting our season playing the No. 6 team in the country, we knew we had our work cut out for us,” Richardson said. “Although it didn’t necessarily go the way we wanted it to, there were a lot of things we did that demonstrated that we can play with the best teams in the country.”

“It’s good to have a positive mindset after a tough loss because the season is so long and just beginning,” sophomore Anna Bennett said.

“I know that with a positive mindset and hard work day in and day out we will have a successful season,” Richardson said.

e Shorewomen look forward to working with this experience to help them in their next game, another non-Conference match- up. They will play away versus Albright Col- lege on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
