The Shoremen dipped into the fountain of youth over the offseason with the addition of 10 freshmen, including: two new goalkeepers, Tim Loeffler and  Austin Heid; defender Alex Coster; midfielders Cole Gifford, Tommy Hance, Ben Horgan, Jackson Sopa and Ben Strine; midfielder and defender Harrison Malone; and forward Alyan Youssaf. They will join the team’s four sophomores, 10 juniors and four seniors.

Head Coach Roy Dunshee returns for his eighth season as the head coach. Pat O’Neal, Class of 2019, and Dimitri Kaliakin, Class of 2017, are the assistant coaches. Jeff Reinoehl, Tom Bowman and James Bedrock, Class of 2011, are volunteer assistant coaches for the season.

Due to the variance in age, the team has a balance of experience and inexperience which they hope will help them get to the post-season. Experience level can have an impact on the pace of the game play.

Senior defender and team captain Sean Garin has a positive outlook for the season with the addition of a large freshman class.

“I have high hopes for this season. With a large freshman class, it usually takes a little bit to find team chemistry but this year it formed particularly fast. Hopefully, we can use this to continue to build a style of play that suits everyone’s skill sets. If we continue to work as efficiently as we have been, I think we can get the results we plan for,” he said.

Sophomore midfielder Eric Gwadz also has high expectations for the season.

“Our team goal is to win the Centennial Conference. My expectation is that we will make it to the Centennial Conference playoffs. I also expect that we will work hard and fight to win all of our games,” he said.

So far, the Shoremen have played and won two games, including a double-overtime win versus Keystone on August 31. The team will travel to Cabrini on September 6 for their next match.
