Rob Savidge has been swimming ever since he can remember. However, he has been swimming competitively since seventh grade. He has been swimming for Washington College for four years. In that time he has participated in many events. His specialties include 100m and 200m breastroke, 200m individual medley, and the 200m and 400m medley relay.
Freshman Alex Kuhn said, "I believe the captains bring a certain quality that make them leaders in their own ways. Rob, as well as Ryan, lead by excelling in the pool as well as in the classroom."
Rob's presence in the pool will surely be missed as he is involved in so many events. He will, however, be in the history books as he continues to hold the team record in the 100m breastroke, as well as being key leg on the record holding 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
Ryan Staszak has been swimming since he was about 8 years old. Like Savidge, Staszak has swam in many events; his best include the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 100m butterfly. In his senior year of high school Staszak was chosen MVP and was also on the Virginia All-Region team.
Staszak said that he has gotten faster in college which he attributes to his coach, Kim Lessard. Last year Staszak won the 50 freestyle at the championships. In that same year he was also named team MVP. This year he has made the D-III National B cut in the 50m freestyle with a time of 21.20 seconds.
"I think that both of our captains are positive role models," said sophomore Dave Jensen. "They are serious and dedicated when they need to get the team ready for a meet, but yet they still know how to have fun."
