The Shorewomen then hosted Franklin and Marshall last Saturday in a game that went into double overtime. In an effort to win, three Shorewomen scored in double digits. Unfortunately, F&M defeated Washington 83-80.
The game was a nail biter as the lead went back and forth between the two. The lead changed eleven different times in the first half. The Shorewomen shot a strong 15-for-32 from the floor but only a meager 58.3% from the free throw line. At the break, the Shorewomen had a 39-38 advantage, but F&M answered by shooting 69.2% from the line in the second half. The Diplomats also capitalized on their foul shots in the two extra periods, where they netted 12-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Simos led the team with 19 points and four assists, while Britton worked hard to earn a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Piringer also added 15 points in the losing effort.
"Against both Bryn Mawr and F&M we played our game - intense, focused, and aggressive," said Bierzonski. "We played hard against Franklin and Marshall and showed that we could pull together as a team.
It was the most intense we have been all season and shows how far we have come. If we can stay at that level there is no team that can outplay us!"The Shorewomen's next contest is tomorrow, at home, when they host conference rival Dickinson College at 1 p.m.
