Arts Service Council makes formal request to Administration regarding arts on campus

To the Powers that Be,

The first line of the Washington College mission statement reads "Washington College aspires to stimulate men and women to think deeply, imaginatively, and creatively." The Arts Service Council recently formed on this campus in order to pursue this noble objective.

We began as a group of students who felt that the Department of Music was not being taken seriously. We held a rally and, if nothing else, we were heard.

Since then, we have organized and expanded. We have stepped back to take a look at all of the arts on campus and have been fighting to put the arts where we want them to be.

We have decided that, as integral members of a liberal arts college, we would like to see the fine and performing arts given the respect they deserve.

In order to resolve the issues that have arisen, we need to know what role you would like the arts to play. You know how we feel. We honestly want to understand what your position is.

Sincerely,

The Arts Service Council
