Women's lacrosse falls to #5 William Smith in Florida

Heather Reader

Over spring break 2001 the Washington College women's lacrosse team traveled to Panama City Beach, Florida to work on their game. With their scheduled game against William Smith College postponed due to inclement weather, the Shorewomen did not play until March 16. Until then, the Shorewomen worked extremely hard practicing two times a day.

In this non-conference game, Washington fell to William Smith 15-4. Two freshmen, Casey Sawma and Janet Studdiford, led the team with two goals each while sophomore Tracy Smet also helped out as she finished the game with one assist.

"It was a big deal to play them [William Smith] because they are so good and they are currently ranked fifth in the nation. That adds a great boost to our schedule," said sophomore Amanda Hare.

In goal for the Shorewomen was freshman Johanna McCormick. She ended the game with ten total saves for the Shorewomen. After the game the Shorewomen's record dropped to 0-2 overall.

"Our attack is really on this season despite the fact of being such a young team," added Hare. "We have a lot of individual talent and two of our leading scorers are freshmen."

Tomorrow, at 1 p.m., the Shorewomen will be hosting their annual Alumni game at 1 p.m.
