To the Editor,
We write this letter for two reasons. First, an apology is owed to President John Toll regarding the SGA Resolution that appeared in the March 23 issue of The Elm. Because of a miscommunication on the part of the SGA Executive Board, the resolution was never delivered to President Toll, and he was not informed of it until he saw it published. The Review Board would like to assure President Toll that this is not the way that the SGA conducts business, and that we apologize for the error. Furthermore, we would like to thank him for his response, which we did receive on Saturday. Again, we offer our apology.
Secondly, to the students of Washington College. Your SGA is currently doing everything within its power to try to resolve this issue through dignified and diplomatic means. We are committing ourselves to this and to increase the lines of communication between the administration, faculty, staff, and students. At the present moment, we need to inform ourselves of the Tenure Process, we need to inform ourselves with Dr. Hubley's specific case, and we need to inform ourselves of other aspects of the issue. However, there will be no official action taken until we acquire all the facts about the case.
On another note, we assure the students that we will not stand for the needless removal of qualified faculty members or the depletion of departments at our liberal arts college. We are strongly encouraged by the student concern.
As per our responsibility to you, we will do all in our power to proactively make sure our voices are heard. Issues like this are the fundamental reason that we exist. As students, we have the right to the liberal arts education this school promised us we would have. As leaders, we will uphold our duty to safeguard the rights of the students.Sincerely,
THE REVIEW BOARD, WASHINGTON COLLEGE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
