Sports Notes

Crew

The crew team rowed against many different teams this past weekend. The first team, #394 ranked Beaver College, featured two of the best rowers in the nation. Fortunately for the Shorewomen, the forces of Mary McAuliffe and Heather Reader were too much. The two lady rowers did not want to be beat by such a strong team thus they sabotaged the lady beavers boat before the race. Within the first kilometer of the race, the lady beavers sank into the water and the Shorewomen won the race!

The men's team will race at the Head of the OccaQuaz Invitational tomorrow.

Be sure to see master rower Quaz, after whom the event is named, participate in his last race for Washington College. The Quaz has decided to put his ore down at the end of this race, picking up a hoe and taking up gardening in its place. More details to come.

Sailing

WC Sailing is nationally ranked. With the end of men's lacrosse they are finally going to get the recognition the deserve. The team travels to sunny Cuba this weekend to take on refugees who are trying to escape Fidel Castro's communist society. Though the team is ranked, one must agree that those Cuban's sure know how to sail!

IM Sports

With the recent news of the Muniz/Noce/Wisk trio being apprehended by authorities, all IM games have been suspended until further notice. Some feel that IM sports at WC will not resume until Wisk is released from prison.

That may never happen.

Baseball

Recently the Shoremen took on the Rockford Peaches. Though Dottie Henson is a beast, senior pitcher Ernie Wagner had no fear facing her with the bases loaded and the game on the line. "I threw her my heater and she didn't even see it coming!" said Wagner.

The Shoremen won the game, 1-0, off a homerun by Rui Pereira. Unfortunately, the WC S.I.D. incorrectly recorded the hit and RBI giving it to catcher Daniel Evans.

In other baseball news, the shark was seen at the Blue Bird last night in poor form. His tail was wavering and his fins were flaccid. Get well soon!

Softball

The softball team has acquired a second pitcher. Poor Allison Weisbrod no longer has to pitch every inning of every game anymore. Former major league baseball great Fernando Venezuela has come out of baseball retirement to play WC softball. Venezuela, who never attended college, decided that this was the right move for him as the team needed a lefty. In addition, who could beat dressing in that locker room?

Men's Lacrosse

There is no more WC men's lacrosse. Who cares? There are only 32 teams in division III. Our former team was ranked 12, that is like having our softball team ranked 130 or 250 ... Big deal! In their last game against Sisters of the Blind, the Shoremen lost 43-0. The sisters were ranked #33.
