The #15 Washington College men's lacrosse team gained one huge win and suffered one tight loss this past week in two Centennial Conference match-ups.
The Shoremen rolled past Haverford, 21-4, in their game Wednesday, April 11. Eleven players scored goals led by Eric Kuehn with four. Craig Rentch and John Thomas each scored three goals.
Throughout the entirety of the game, Washington out shot Haverford 53-18, and held an 86-16 advantage in groundballs. In the goal, keeping aspect of the game, John Chrismer had three saves and allowed four goals. Also in the goal for Washington was Jesse Markowitz. Markowitz had ten saves and allowed no goals.
After their victory over Haverford College the Shoremen moved on to play the #2 ranked Gettysburg Saturday, April 14.
The Shoremen were poised for an outstanding game against Gettysburg after their outstanding defeat of Haverford. The men played a very hard and close game but came up short against the Bullets.
In this game, Gettysburg's Pete Milliman continued his return to All-America form. The junior attackman scored a game-high four goals and added one assist to lead Gettysburg past the Shoremen, 7-5, in Centennial Conference action.
Due to their win over the Shoremen, Gettysburg will host the four-team Centennial Conference postseason tournament with a win against either Dickinson or Swarthmore. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, April 27 with the championship game slated for Sunday, April 29.
Leading the way for the Shoremen was Rentch who scored three of Washington's five goals. Kuehn and Nick Nyland scored the other two goals while freshman Steve Berger picked up two assists and senior Dan Meehan added one assist in the loss.
In the net for the Shoremen, Chrismer, playing the entire game, made 10 saves. The key statistic in the game ended up being the 38-30 shot advantage the Bullets held on the Shoremen. WC outdid Gettysburg in every other major category.
The Shoremen are in action next when they host Eastern Connetcticut State Saturday on Kibler Field. Face-off is at 1:30 p.m.
