Last week, the women's lacrosse team traveled to Villa Julie and Washington & Lee.
Tuesday, April 17, the Shorewomen defeated Villa Julie 11-10. Freshman duo Casey Sawma and Minta Sayres led the team with three goals apiece in the win.
The entire game was fought hard. At halftime, the Shorewomen had a 7-6 advantage.
Senior Niki Dennison scored one goal in the game. In addition to the goal, she also had an assist and she led the team with six groundballs.
Tracy Smet, Janet Studdiford, Betty Weller, and Shannon Hanley each contributed goals in the win. Goalie Johanna McCormick was in goal for the Shorewomen and made 11 saves."We are a very young team with a lot of talent," said Liz Dowell.
"We have the ability to go very far, and as long as we believe in ourselves, we will."Saturday, the Shorewomen traveled to Lexington, Va where they faced Washington & Lee. The goalie for Washington & Lee made eighteen saves to help her team to a 11-4 victory over the Shorewomen.
Sayres led the Shorewomen against Washington & Lee as she scored one goal and had two assists. Paige Heller also finished the game with a goal, along with Studdiford. Sophomore Sunni Houston added one assist. McCormick made seven saves in the loss.
This weekend, the Shorewomen will be traveling to Pennsylvania to play in the inaugural Centennial Conference Women's Lacrosse championship tournament hosted by Ursinus College.
The Shorewomen will be playing against host Ursinus in a semi-final at 1 p.m. The winner of the WC/Ursinus game will take on the winner of the #9 Gettysburg/#13 F&M game on Sunday in the final to see which team will advance to the NCAA tournament.
In regular season play, the Shorewomen lost to the Bears, 17-5. #10 Ursinus is also in first place in the conference, but the Shorewomen are up for the challenge. Ursinus defeated all three teams in regular season play.
