Player of the Week: Ne'ko Browder

Katie Bierzonski

Congratulations this week go to freshman Ne'ko Browder, who has been reigning supreme on the tennis courts this season.

Browder topped off a remarkable season with a win in the doubles tournament at the Centennial Conference Championships last week at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Browder, with teammate Shoko Nakamura, defeated Jennifer Pao and Laura Swerdlow of Swarthmore, 8-1. Congratulations to Browder on these accomplishments, as well as a great season. She is this week's Player of the Week.

"Our team goal for the season was to do well in the conference tournament as we just did," said Browder. "We accomplished our goals because we were also looking to better the team's performances as compared to the last few years."

Her personal goal is to play at Nationals. She says the team's greatest strength this year was that "the team gave off a feeling of togetherness and trust."

This togetherness should carry over to next year with this young team, whose biggest rival is "Swarthmore - we should of beat them this year and we will next year."

"Ne'ko did a great job as a very young player this season," said Head Coach Matt Rose. "As she matures she could accomplish a great deal."

Browder is only a freshman and undecided in her major, but is leaning toward a double major in Psychology and the Arts.

She also played tennis in high school and was named the MVP all four years! She added, "I enjoyed playing with the people on the team. They are really special to me and I'll miss Cynthia... she kept me sane on the tennis court. I look forward to more years with the people on this team." Good luck to Browder and the Shorewomen tennis team in all of their future successes.
