
The Washington College women's lacrosse team traveled to Collegeville, PA last weekend to play in the conference playoffs. Ranked fourth of four, the team was matched up with the top team in the conference, host Ursinus.
For the Bears, two of their key players started the scoring off quickly within the first five minutes of play. They were followed by goal from Janet Studdiford as she got the Shorewomen up on the board when ten minutes remaining in the first half. At this point, the Bears had a 3-1 lead. Studdiford and Paige Heller answered this lead by both scoring a goal during the last three minutes of the first half knotting the game at three at half.
Ursinus jumped out with two quick goals at the start of the second half.
The Shorewomen answered back with three goals of their own. Minta Sayers scored the go-ahead goal putting the Shorewomen up 6-5.Twelve seconds after Tracy Smet broke a 6-6 tie, Ursinus tied the game again forcing an overtime period.
Ursinus controlled the overtime period shutting out the Shorewomen and scoring three goals of their own to pick up the win, 10-7.
Goalie Johanna McCormick made seven saves in net for the Shorewomen.
Heller paced her team with two goals and two assists while Studdiford chipped in with two goals."We pulled together as a team and we have no regrets after this game because we played with out full heart," said Sunni Houston. "It made our season worthwhile and we are leaving the season on an encouraging note causing us to look forward to next year's talent."
