Last week the Washington College women's soccer team played Marymount College and Stevens Tech in hopes to pick up their first victory of the season.
September 5, the Shorewomen faced off against Marymount College where for the second consecutive game they ended up in a tie.
The game remained scoreless through the first half of play. Sophomore forward McKinsey Thawley scored a goal for Marymount late in the game at the 75:07 mark off an assist from sophomore midfielder Courtney Copeland.
The Shorewomen managed to tie the contest up at one just 81 seconds later when freshman forward Jordan Rogers fired in a goal off a throw-in from freshman back Amy Bromwell. The goal marked the first collegiate point for Rogers.
Goalkeeper Mandy Higdon made a total of nine saves in the game, bringing her save percentage to .958 over the past two games.
Marymount held a significant advantage in corner kicks, 9-2, as well as a 20-14 edge in total shots on goal.
The Shorewomen fought hard and played to a 1-1 final in overtime which extended their overall record to 0-1-2.
Their home opener on September 7, against Stevens Tech, brought the second loss of the season for the Shorewomen.
The game was close and the Shorewomen played rather well. Stevens Tech freshman Milia George scored the only goal of the game early on, off an assist from junior forward Jolyn Litcher. The goal was scored at the 18:39 mark.
Higdon made eight saves in the game, and sophomore back Sara Mackeverican took three shots on goal.
In spite of all their efforts the Shorewomen fell 1-0 to the undefeated Ducks bringing their overall season record to 0-2-2.
Despite the loss the team feels that they are working well together and improving their skills on the field.
"We definitely improve every time we play a game," commented freshman Nicole Alpert.
Stevens Tech held an 11-6 advantage over the Shorewomen in shots on goal, as well as an advantage on corner kicks, 8-4.
The Shorewomen have yet to win a game this season, but the hope to change that when they host Dickinson tomorrow, in their first Centennial Conference game of the season. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
