With all of the talk of raising more than was needed for the Campaign for Washington's College, one might stop to wonder why that money hasn't been put to use yet. Obviously, if the administration is getting more money than they bargained for, they should have extra left over. It's just simple math.
The question that concerned students should ask would be, "Where exactly does all that money go?" It should be noted in a recent Elm article that only $8,000 is set aside for lighting adjustments and improvements each fiscal year. How is it that a school that is going above and beyond its approximated fundraising goal can only set aside $8,000 for student safety?
A lack of faculty and staff wage increases has been a heated topic at WC for years. Although the college claims that each are within their appropriate ranks among other competitive colleges, one might ask how it is, once again, so hard to find a little extra money to give those valued faculty and employees incentive to stay at WC.
And the classroom situation is horrendous. WC is supposed to be a competitive school sitting on the edge of the technological future with classrooms that barely have old-timey projectors.
Yet we're spending money to build a new campus center. Is it just me or did we just rebuild one this past year? Many of the sentiments among the student body is that they don't like the idea of having a huge campus center being built. Perhaps that money could be spend elsewhere.
I'm sure it's not as easy as it sounds. The money is probably already accounted for in places that truly need it. But, with financial experts like WC has, why can't they come up with that extra money for things that really need the attention? Just place another phone call to solicit money. Getting just one five million dollar donation sure would help out!
