Destination Unknown was the first big on-campus party of the spring semester, held Friday, January 25 in the Student Center from 9:30 pm until 1:00 am.
It was a great time to meet and greet with the members of each Greek organization. DJ Sting, a student at WC, provided the music for the party.
The sororities here at WC include Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron Pi and Zeta Tau Alpha, while the male fraternities are Kappa Alpha Order, Phi Delta Theta and Theta Chi.
The party was organized by both the Panhellenic Council (representing the three sororities) and the Interfraternity Council (representing the three fraternities).
Both the Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council facilitate with the recruitment of new members and aid in cooperation between the separate fraternities and sororities for social and athletic events and link the Greek life with WC's administration.
The President of the Panhellenic Council, ZTA Junior Courtney Busch, explained that the Destination Unknown party was held "as a welcome back party for the school."
She added, "We wanted to do something where everyone could come and get involved instead of it just being Greek only."
Prior to the event, Busch said, "I'm expecting it to go very well, since there aren't a lot of other parties going on right now."
Busch then shared her reaction to the party: "It was a much bigger success than I thought if would be! It really showed how the sororities and fraternities could come together and have a good time."
Junior Erik Lund, President of the Interfraternity Council, explained the preparation that was needed for the party to be able to take place: "The party was actually prepared last semester. Basically, we had to get a DJ, food and beverages. The DJ we got was Chris Hastings, a student, a friend, and a prodigy. We chose the campus center because it is free and could hold the people."
Lund continued, "The reason for the party was to one, promote Greek Life, and two, to bring the campus together with a much needed and infrequent party."
He admitted, "I must say, I, as did a few of the other IFC members, felt the party may not do so well being on a Friday night, but we were all really surprised at how well it turned out."
Said Lund, "The key was the DJ; he played a good mix of music, keeping everyone's attention. We were all very happy with the turnout and the overall performance. I heard that everyone had a good time, which was all we wanted to provide."
"I thought the DJ was good. I had fun shaking my booty. I did have a great time overall," shared Junior Jenna Craley.
Junior and ZTA Jennifer Hewson said, "It was great to see the number of people who showed up, especially the non-Greeks. It was really hot in the Student Center, but it looked like everyone was having a good time anyway."
Freshman Nike Pantazes shared her experiences at the party: "It was a good time overall, and there was a lot of great music to listen to and a great turnout from the student body."
Freshman Jim Barossi spoke of the opportunity to meet students he otherwise would not have: "I had a terrific time due to the wide variety of various people at the party. I enjoyed the dancing, talking and meeting new people. It was a great break from the normal weekend scene."
Members of the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council went through the campus's dormitories before the party selling navy blue t-Shirts for the Destination Unknown Party. There are still t-shirts available for ten dollars; please contact Casey Jones at extension 8901.
