The Shorewomen took the road to play their last non-conference game of the 2001-2002 season on January 31 against Notre Dame College, as well as Centennial Conference opponent Dickinson College on February 2.
At Notre Dame, the game remained close throughout the first half, ending in a tie, 23 apiece.
Both teams shot rather poorly in the first half, with Washington netting only 29 percent while Notre Dame shot a meager 32 percent.
The Shorewomen only shot 28 percent in the second half, but held the Gators to a pathetic 17 percent in the final twenty minutes to earn the victory.
WC out rebounded the Gators 50-38 overall and 18-9, offensively.
The 51-42 victory over the Notre Dame improved the Shorewomen's overall record to 9-10.
In the win, sophomore guard Karen Simos scored a game-high 16 points and collected eight rebounds for Washington.
Senior forward Allyson Britton and freshman forward Liz Smith both tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore forward Meghan Hartzell contributed eight points for the Shorewomen and blocked two shots in only 18 minutes of play.
Following their victory over Notre Dame the Shorewomen went on to play conference for Dickinson, looking to even their overall record as well as stay in contention for a conference bid into the playoffs.
The Shorewomen were ahead, 16-12, with 9:45 left to play in the first half.
Dickinson then went on a 10-0 run to take a 22-16 lead over the Shorewomen.
Washington answered back by going on a 16-0 run of their own to end the half with a 32-22 advantage over the Red Devils.
Dickinson missed 13 field goal attempts and a pair of free throws during the Shorewomen's run.
The Shorewomen took their biggest lead with 11:50 left to play when they led the Red Devils by 14 points, 43-29.
Dickinson then went on a 12-2 run late in the half to tie the game 51-51 with only 3:31 left to play.
Britton and sophomore guard Katie Piringer made back-to-back jumpers to give Washington a 55-51 lead with 1:42 to play.
"The Dickinson game was one of the most competitive games this season," said Britton. "It was emotional, but we kept our composure and played as a team."
The Red Devils had a chance to win in the last minute of the game when the Shorewomen missed five free throws, but they managed to hold on for the 57-55 victory over Dickinson.
WC shot a horrible two for 11 from the charity stripe while the Red Devils were good on 15 of their 26 attempts. Washington shot 45 percent from the field for the game, while the Red Devils were held to a low 35 percent.
"We went into the Dickinson game expecting to win," added Smith. "We played an intense forty minutes and kept our composure at the end."
Piringer led both teams in scoring with 17 points, and was three of six from deep.
Piringer has made a total of 46 three pointers so far this season and finds herself needing only three more trys to break her team record of three-pointers in a season of 48. She is also only 7 bombs away from making it onto the top 10 all-time conference list.
Britton added twelve points and Smith grabbed 11 boards and dropped in 10 points herself in the win.
The win evened the Shorewomen's record at 10-10 overall. They are currently 4-6 in conference play.
WC will play in the front end of the double-header tomorrow when they host Muhlenberg College at 1 p.m.
