After a long season of road trips, back to back games, and everything both on and off the court, the Washington College women's basketball team ended their season with one last away game at Western Maryland College, in Westminster, MD.
Western Maryland shot 50 percent against the Shorewomen to give themselves a 41-28 lead at the half. The Green Terror also out rebounded the Shorewomen 48-34 throughout the contest.
This was the last collegiate game for seniors Allyson Britton, Janine Morehead and Nicole Tuscan. Britton scored a season high 25 points in the final game of her collegiate career against the Green Terror. She shot 7-for-12 from the field and was 11-of-13 shooting from the free throw line.
Sophomore guard Katie Piringer set a new school record of 61 three pointers for the season. She bested her own record of 48 from the 2000-2001 season. Freshman forward Liz Smith led the Shorewomen in field goals for the season and had the highest field goal percentage of .478.
The Shorewomen ended their season 11-14 overall and 5-10 in conference play. Though the Shorewomen's record did not improve from last season, as they were 12-12 overall and 7-8 in conference play last year, they still had a strong season. They won the majority of their non-conference games, going 6-4 in those contests.
With a strong recruit class, and the extra year of experience for the remaining players, look for the Shorewomen to make a dent in the Centennial Conference in the 2002-2003 season.
