Play portrays complex life of a love relationship

Jen Daley

This Friday and Saturday, WC will be able to see "the birth, death and finally the possible rebirth of a relationship," in only two hour's time, said Senior Susan Mya-San.

Her thesis production, Jack and Jill, writtne by Jane Martin, will go up this week

The play is going to be an on-stage seating production and reservations will be needed. To make reservations, contact Jillian Fletcher.

Mya-San described Jack and Jill as being "about a relationship between two people and all the feelings and emotions that are involved when you care for another person. The play addresses fear, hesitation, uncertainty, connection, support, understanding, relating, etc.

"Jack and Jill is also about coming full circle. I think anyone who has cared for another person will be able to relate to the characters and the show in general," she continued.

When asked about her expectations for her opening night, she explained, "I'm really excited to see it performed opening night. I've got such strong actors with really great chemistry and stage presence."

"They bring such life to the characters, and they've done a terrific job at memorizing lines - they have had so many to learn," stated Mya-San.

Mya-San continued, "The rehearsal process has been too much fun. Since I have such a small cast, it's been easy for us to get to know each other, and we've become really comfortable around each other."

Mya-San explained the only downside to the production: "I think I'll be extremely sad when this ends because I will miss spending time with Harry [Wright], Jill [Coste], and Allison Heishman, my stage manager and savior. We've gotten pretty close through this process."

Mya-San described the choices that she made for her set: "The set is very minimal because I wanted the audience to focus on the characters and the action between them. At times, there is only one chair on stage or a couch and a table."

She continued, "Much of the costume changes are done onstage and the scene changes are short and quick to keep the action moving smoothly."

The cast consists of senior Jill Coste, playing the role of Jill, and freshman Harry Wright, playing the role of Jack.

When asked to explain his character, Wright said, "Well, we'll all be hopelessly in love at some point like Jack. He just has certain qualities that everyone can relate with, and other [qualities] are a bit obscure."

He continued, "but for me, it would be his simple attitude, wild passion, and, oh yes, his dull sense of humor" that Wright is able to relate to.

Wright explained his feelings about the show: "I think the show has been a great learning experience for my personal as well as social life, well that and considering I was the only guy at rehearsals and after rehearsal get-togethers."

When asked why he thought people should attend the show, he simply stated, "It's the only thing that everyone should be doing this Friday."
