Many wonder why the majority of WC students do not frequent the campus center. Some blame the poor turnout on dim lighting or the campus's social structure.
They figure that the situation cannot be helped because these factors are unchangeable.
However, there are some things Town Hall employees could do to make the place more inviting. The first step they might consider is keeping the café open until one a.m.
That the student center often closes before one a.m. is not a rumor. It is a fact. Many students have dragged themselves the Town Hall at 12:15 in the morning for a latte or a late snack, only to find the doors locked, or maintenance cleaning, or worse, there are no employees at the counter.
It is understandable that Town Hall employees do not wish to keep the student center open. Nobody wants to stay in an empty café until late evening. However, the people who choose to work late shifts are obligated to be there until the designated closing time.
Some of the people who work later shifts do not close the café, but they do disappear from behind the counter. When students pass by or poke their heads in the door, they do not see anybody.
This does not give people the impression that the Town Hall is open.
A few of the employees who choose later hours are also members of the SGA executive board. Is there some sort of correlation between the Café's mysterious hours and that fact?
It is tempting to leave the bar unattended and instead work in the SGA office. Employees do not do this to spite those who come to the campus center looking for a coffee. However, it does not portray the café as a very open, inviting place.
