What does the typical student do on an advising day?
Well, for starters, the night before usually entails a couple of cocktails, be it at Andy's, the Blue Bird, or just with some friends. Then, after some roaming around the Washington College campus, as well as downtown Chestertown, students go down for the count only to wake up at about 1 p.m. the next afternoon and waste the day away.
This is why this story is worth writing about. Junior Stacy Sines decided to stay in on the eve of our second advising day because she planned a great event last Wednesday called "Bike for Mike."
"Michael is an awesome kid that always wears a smile," read Sines' mass blitzmail sent to the entire campus informing them of her great feat.
Sines moved a stationary bike from the Lifetime Fitness Center in front of the Washington College Dining Hall and biked for eight hours and one minute all just to raise money for young Michael.
Michael is a young local boy who is battling a brain tumor. He is one of Sines'swimming students. The swimmer met Mike when she began teaching young children how to swim during the off-season.
When asked how and why she came up with such an event, Sines replied, "unfortunately, as we all know, medical costs are high and he could use the support of everyone."
An all-american swimmer here at Washington College, Sines is not afraid of competition and hard work.
Her caring heart and tireless efforts to raise money for Mike earned his family $662.91 that will help defray some medical costs.
If you were unable to see Stacy's efforts and would still like to donate to Michael's cause, please contact her via blitzmail. A special thanks goes to all those that helped.
