After weeks of tough games and competition, Washington College's volleyball team earned its first win on September 10, against Hood College. The game was an exciting win for the Shorewomen, going to five games with match scores 30-22, 21-30, 30-25, 26-30, and 15 6, respectively.
Washington won the first, third and fifth sets while Hood rallied from one set deficits twice, winning the second and fourth sets. This win for the Shorewomen improves their record to 1-8. Marcie McConville attributes this win to her team's hard teamwork and desire to win; "we really wanted this win. We pulled together and played our game."
Exceptional performances were seen from senior setter Katie Orga who earned a career-high 21 kills alongside seven assists and three service aces. Laura Ford had 12 kills, while Abigail Benson and Nanna Kozemchak followed up with eleven. McConville led the team in blocks and aces.
The following weekend the Shorewomen played in the Asics Maryland State Tournament at Johns Hopkins. They went 0-4 during the tournament, but did have a game win in their match against Villa Julie.
Due to hurricane Isabel matches against Goucher and Haverford were postponed. WC volleyball continues its schedule this weekend at home in the Penny Fall Classic.
