According to a recent news article, the Bush Administration's restrictions on international family planning are causing more women to seek abortions because they are being denied access to proper contraceptives. Despite having the highest HIV infection rate in Africa, The Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association no longer receives condoms from the U.S.
It is a shock that despite fiery opposition from many Americans who support international family planning, the Bush Administration has had some success in marketing their agenda.
The administration has attempted to justify these international restrictions by claiming that it is the taxpayers, not the government, who are controlling these cuts.
It is not fair that women in poor countries are at serious health risks from not being able to obtain birth control or safe abortions.
All women, including poor women in poor countries, deserve access to proper healthcare. The male leaders of our country should not be controlling the type of care women receive. If they're controlling healthcare options inpoor nations what stops them from limiting our own country's female healthcare accessibility.
Will Bush decide that providing college students with condoms is unnecessary?
If you are as shocked by Bush's hypocrisy as I am please go to www.plannedparenthood.com and register to become a part of the campaign against cuts in international family planning.
Please take a stand and e-mail your complaints to Congress, otherwise female freedoms around the world are going to continue to be unjustly restricted.
