Anybody miss the Renaissance Festival who wanted to go? Well, you could get a taste of what it might have been like if you stop by Tawes Theatre next Monday, November 18, at 8 p.m.
Istanpitta, a Texas-based Medieval Music Ensemble, will be performing, courtesy of The Washington College Concert Series.
The Concert Series, composed of Director Kate Bennett, Chairman Gary Clarke and members of the WC community, meet twice a year to discuss business and decide on ensembles to bring into the college.
"One of the categories we were looking for this year was early music," said Bennett.
"The college has an early music vocal consort and an early music instrumental group, both of whom perform at the Renaissance dinner each December. Istanpitta was a group who had sent me promotional materials, and they seemed quite good" continued Bennett.
Described by their webpage as "Texas based ensemble performing music of the 10th to 14th century Middle Ages including many traditional Middle Eastern dances," Istanpitta (meaning "stamping dance" in Italian,) consists of three to five musicians, who play a variety of Medieval instruments.
To date, they have produced two CDs, "C'est La Fin" and "Chevrefoil."
"Personally, I am very interested to see and hear the many different instruments from the early music time period," said Bennett.
Tickets are available by calling 410-778-7839, or 800-422-1782, ext. 7839.
Individual and Contributing patr Series are available from $50 onward.
All students should have received free tickets to the 2003-2004 scheduled concerts in the mail earlier this fall.
"I would hope the college and the community will enjoy Istanpitta, for we don't have this kind of music very often here," said Bennett.
She continued, "There is quite an interest in early music; for example, many students belong to the groups I already mentioned" Bennett stated.

"Come and enjoy!" Bennett concluded. "Many students enjoy the Renaissance Fairs around the country, and this is that type of music; fun, beautiful, authentic and right here at Washington College!"
"Take a couple hours away from regular college life!"
