Both Green and Scimeca spent considerable time in centerfield for the Shorewomen and may be seen there again in 2004. WC is returning two other outfielders for the 2004 season: senior Natalie Liccketto and sophomore Jess Hoff. Junior Andrea Braverman should see time behind the plate as well as a first-base utility in 2004.
Also taking on the first-base catcher role is senior captain Theresa Pyzik, who is returning after a missed 2003 season due to injury. Returning on the left side for the Shorewomen is sophomore shortstop Laura Mozzer, who hit .282 with 20 runs scored in her freshman year, and senior shortstop Pamela Boccuzz, who is returning to the Shorewomen after a two-year absence.
Six freshmen are looking to move up in the ranks, especially Tara Harrigan, Meg Lucas and Amelia Barnard, all of who will be looking to fill the hole left at second base upon the 2003 graduation of Julie Bahus. The other Shorewomen newcomers include left-handed pitcher Eileen Douglass, third baseman Beth Anne Hartman, and outfielder Alex Walchonski.
The WC Softball 2004 season will begin in early March with the Shorewomens annual Spring Break trip to Florida. The Shorewomen will open up at home on March 24th against Villa Julie College. Centennial Conference action begins on the road on March 27th against host Franklin and Marshall College.
Head Coach Lin Outten was not able to give a comment. However, one can only assume that his silence is positive and that he is looking forward to a winning season and a strong and healthy team.
As for the teams outlook of the season, sophomore pitcher Diane Green said With our hard work during the off season, and weeks leading up until the Florida Sho'down and Centennial Conference games, its definitely possible for the conference tournament to be in our future! We just cannot get ahead of ourselves too much, and we need to take one game at a time. We have loads of talent this year, and with a winning attitude we will go far!
