The Washington College women's volleyball team completed a sweep Saturday of the Centennial Conference rival Ursinus Bears, as well as non-conference foe Wesley College. The Shorewomen won each match three games to zero, improving their record to 10-13 overall and 2-4 within the Centennial Conference.
With the wins Washington remains in a tie for 7th place in the conference with Muhlenberg. The Shorewomen started strong and never looked back, winning against Ursinus 30-14, 30-14 and 30-16. They continued their dominance with convincing wins over Wesley 30-14, 30-13, 30-21.
The Shorewomen also extended their winning streak to three in a row, matching their season long.
Sophomore Katherine O'Brien paced the Shorewomen against Ursinus, recording 10 kills and a team-high seven digs. Standout freshman setter Arielle Brown contributed a match-high 26 assists, along with a team-high six aces. Senior Lauren Ford, in addition to providing a veteran presence, chipped in seven kills, five aces and two blocks to provide an all-around contribution.
Both Brown and Ford hammered home more aces than the entire Ursinus team, which recorded just four.
The Shorewomen didn't let up in the second match against the Wesley
Wolverines with Ford and Brown, along with Seniors Marci McConville and Abby Benson, all making key contributions.
Once again Ford did a little bit of everything, with 10 kills, two blocks and two aces, while Brown topped her previous game's mark of 26 assists with 32. Benson racked up nine kills, six aces and six digs, with McConville providing six kills and three digs.
Overall, both victories were total team efforts and the Shorewomen look to continue their success on October 18th at Johns Hopkins. Washington College Volleyball will be in action on Saturday October 22nd when the Shorewomen host Dickinson in a Centennial Conference match up.
