The men's and women's rowing teams competed in Boston, Massachusetts and at the Johns Hopkins Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland last Saturday.
The women's Novice Eight boat continued its strong season at the Johns Hopkins Invitational. The Novice Eight was victorious against Loyola and Mary Washington in a time of 6:45. Freshman Danielle Holthaus served as coxswain of the Shorewomen's novice eight. Freshman Jenna Lapointe sat stroke, freshman Kali Beth Erstein was in the seven seat, freshman Jamie Beaber was in the six seat, freshman Carol Funck sat in the five seat, freshman Megan Jasion was in the four seat, freshman Emily Bands sat in the three seat, freshman Allie LaVigne was in two seat, and sophomore Becca Kain was the bow.
The Shorewomen also raced a Novice "A" boat and a Novice "B" boat in the John's Hopkins Invitational. The "A" Novice Four took second place to the University of Maryland in the finals. Danielle Holthaus also served as the coxswain for the Novice "A" boat. Freshman Elizabeth Thorpe sat stroke, freshman Laura Powell was in the three seat, freshman Julia Rorer sat in the two seat, and freshman Elizabeth Andrews was the bow.
The "B" Novice Four finished in fifth place in the same race. The "B" boat was rowed by freshman Ruby Tuesday Griffiths, who sat stroke, freshman Maura McLoughlin in the three seat, freshman Amy Windsor in the two seat, and freshman Kisato Takenaka at bow. Sophomore Laura Messerly was the coxswain.
The Varsity Four took second place behind Loyola and Hopkins. Junior Erin Koster was the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity four. Junior Blair Haring sat stroke, sophomore Laura Ratz was in the three seat, senior Betsy Davis was in the two seat, and sophomore Courtney Jensen was the bow.
In Boston, the Varsity Eight was defeated by Tufts twice Varsity Eight and second Varsity Eight. Senior Katie Cooper served as the coxswain of the Shorewomen's varsity eight. Senior Leslie Meredith sat stroke, senior Katherine Wilson was in the seven seat, junior Erin Jones sat in the six seat, junior Jeanne Clark was in the five seat, junior Amy Uebel was in the four seat, sophomore Hayley Taylor was in the three seat, sophomore Kelly Spicer sat in the two seat, and junior Megan Walburn was the bow.
The men's rowing team was victorious in Boston as they defeated Bates in a time of 6:53.7. In the Varsity Four, Senior Tom Murray served as the coxswain. Sophomore Hugh McAdam sat stroke, senior Mike Philipp was in the three seat, junior Andrew Bright sat in the two seat, and junior Ryan Trone was the bow.
In Baltimore at the Johns Hopkins Invitational, the Novice Eight boat finished in second place after placing first in its prior heat. They were bested by the University of Maryland boat by 11 seconds. Freshman Carla Wiemers was the coxswain. Freshman Derek Trott sat stroke, freshman Steve Reuter was in the seven seat, freshman Zak Morey was in the six seat, freshman Brandon Riker sat in the five seat, freshman Clint McKee was in the four seat, freshman Cole Eshbach sat in the three seat, freshman Matt Icenroad was in the two seat, and freshman Will Bruce was the bow.
The Shoremen also raced a pair, rowed by junior Adam Askham and sophomore Chris Broadwell. The pair finished in third behind Johns Hopkins and Loyola.
This Saturday both the men's and women's teams host the Mother and Son Regatta on the Chester River.
