Washington College Men’s rowing team put forth an impressive performance at the Head of the Schuylkill regatta in Philadelphia this past Saturday, October 24th. The highlight of the day was a great 8th place finish out of 30 boats in the open club eight. WC posted a time of 14:11.7733, the fifth best time of the 21 collegiate boats competing in the race. University Barge Club was the overall winner of the race, coming in at 13:233.09333.
Senior Springer Harris was the coxswain of the boat, senior Brian Gamble sat stroke, junior Reno Smith was in the seven seat, junior Michael Zaborskiy was in the six seat, sophomore Sean Harrison sat in the five seat, senior Andrew Newell sat in the four seat, senior Brandon Riker was in the three seat, junior Will Herland sat in the two seat, and freshman Robert Storck was the bow.
The Shoremen also placed 22nd out of 32 in the open four in 17:04.2233 led by junior coxswain Susanne Vaughn. Senior Dan Pierce sat stroke, senior Tommy Price was in the three seat, freshman Sam Hartman sat in the two seat, and senior Quentin Swain was the bow. Pennsylvania Athletic Club won the open four in 14:42.0267.
Two WC frosh/novice boats competed at the Head of the Schuylkill as well. The frosh/novice four finished 10th of 16 boats with a time of 19:19.9730, and the frosh/novice eight placed 23rd of 28 boats in 16:57.3367. Both boats had freshman Reese Laricks serve as coxswain. Temple won the college frosh/novice four race in 16:33.563, and Princeton won the college frosh/novice eight race in 13.30.3800.
The Shoremen are back at it this Saturday at the Head of Occoquan in Lorton, VA.
