The Washington College women’s soccer team scored three times to down conference rival Bryn Mawr under the lights on a rainy Tuesday evening. In the first half freshman forward Jen Stafford scored after receiving a pass in the box from sophomore midfielder Gabby Devaud. Just ten minutes later sophomore Jen Kiarsis made it 2-0 when she received a pass from freshman midfielder Sierra Abaie. Kiarsis sent the ball flying into the lower-right corner to give the Shorewomen a strong lead. Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Ripple would finish the first half with two saves.
In the second half, sophomore defender Stephanie Willingham scored her first collegiate goal when she blasted a ball from 35 yards out. The play, which stemmed from a corner kick opportunity, was busted up initially until Stafford passed the ball back to Willingham, who then scored. Senior goalkeeper Caroline Grier finished the second half with five saves.
The Shorewomen’s last win versus Bryn Mawr came on November 1st, 2003. Since then the Shorewomen have either tied or lost by just one goal to Bryn Mawr. The win ends the home season for the ladies who return to action on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. match at Dickinson to close out their 2009 season.
