The Hodson Hall Commons opened with a bang this past Friday. On Saturday, a Halloween-themed celebration was held in the new student center. Students came to “rock out with their flock out,” at the event, which included the annual Battle of the Bands.
The bands included At the Zoo, Brighter Shades, Better Without You, and The Performers. The event, hosted by the Student Events Board, also included pumpkin carving, a costume contest, and a pumpkin pie eating contest.
Sophomore Hunter Draheim said, “The Battle of the Bands was a lot of fun, it was great getting to listen to all the local acts. Seeing everyone in his or her costume was really funny, and the overall excitement of Halloween was a great way to celebrate the new student center.”
Sophomore Alex Insel, who coordinated the event, agreed. “My committee members did a great job facilitating the event,” he said, “and everyone on the Traditions Committee helped out with planning, advertising, and setting up for the event. It was mostly their ideas that made the event so great.”
When asked if he thought the event was a success, Insel said, “I think it was a great success for the first event at the new student center; over fifty students showed up, and most were in Halloween costumes.”
Other parties hosted on campus this weekend included an Orange Fence Halloween Party, hosted by the SGA and IFC, and the I-House Halloween Extravaganza, hosted by the IRC. The SEB will next host Comedy Week, ending with a performance by Jamie Kennedy.
