I know people tend to get especially rowdy over Halloween Weekend. Halloween is a nice time for people to relax, let loose, and enjoy themselves.
What troubles me is why does that often have to include the destruction of property?
In the Public Safety Report, it says people damaged the Skybox, destroyed the fence surrounding the patio at Dorchester, punched walls in Sassafras and damaged a license plate.
Not only were things damaged, things were also stolen.
All my years here have been marked by ridiculous destruction and theft by a number of people. I had my bag stolen; my friend had her car dented, just as a few examples. My common room was sprayed with a fire extinguisher. I can’t imagine what people get out of doing such horrible things to their fellow classmates or the school.
The largest display of stupidity, though, is when people destroy the building where they live. Are you a masochist?
We are a small community and gossip spreads like wildfire. What if the person whose license plate you messed up ends up being your friend? How awkward, and probably embarrassed, are you going to be?
Is that really how we, the student body, want to display our character to the administration, faculty and staff here at WC? Do you really want your parents to get a phone call saying you acted stupid so they owe the school a lot of money? Right now, this behavior tends to make students look spoiled and inconsiderate.
All of the theft, destruction, and disrespect need to stop. Out in the real world you will get arrested for this type of behavior. There’s a difference between pranks and destruction. Lets all start acting like the adults that we are.
