The Washington College women’s swimming team stormed past Centennial Conference opponent Bryn Mawr 145-59 to clinch its season opening meet last Sunday. Freshman Sarah Sykes won her first collegiate race when she placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:27.24. Sophomore Jenna Moore placed first in the 100 breaststroke and senior Amy Smith came in first in the 100 backstroke.

However, the stars of the meet were the two captains senior Kathy Gerhart and junior Rachel Glasser who won four races combined. Gerhart finished first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Glasser won the 100 freestyle and finished the 1000 freestyle with her best time since her freshman year.

The ladies return to the pool on Saturday with a 1 p.m. meet against Gettysburg.
