The Washington College women’s soccer team concluded its 2009 campaign with a 6-0 loss to Centennial Conference rival Dickinson College. Despite their loss, the Shorewomen are pleased with their efforts on the field this season. Their six wins surpasses their combined win from the past three seasons.
Key highlights from their season include wins against Goucher College, Neumann College and Penn State-Berks. The Shorewomen recorded their first ever win against Centennial Conference foe Franklin & Marshall in an overtime battle in Lancaster. A month later the Shorewomen broke their losing streak to down another conference opponent Bryn Mawr 3-0. The last time the Shorewomen won two conference games in a season was in 2002.
The Shorewomen are already looking forward to next season. Junior captain Katie Weida said “The team is happy about our season but we are definitely looking to have an even more successful season next year.”
When asked how the team would prepare for next year in the offseason, she said “This year we really want to have a productive offseason. We are planning to play a lot of pick-up and work on our first touch.”
When asked what she is looking forward to the most next season she said, “We lost some close games that we feel we definitely could have won, so we are looking forward to hopefully beating those teams next season.”
