The Washington College Sailing team is looking to build off of the strong showings in the first half of its season. The fall season came to a close last weekend at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championships where the Shoremen placed 14th out of 18 teams.
This was no easy task for the Shoremen, whose opponents were either nationally ranked, or received votes to be ranked. The Shoremen had to travel to Harvard for the championships and competed under standard New England weather: cold rain. Aside from the large amounts of rain, there was a lack of wind on Sunday, forcing the competition to end after Saturday’s races.
The Shoremen were able to battle the elements and finish strong against the nations best. Senior skipper Conner Blouin and freshman crew Matt Lawler took 11th place in the A Division, snagging first place in the fifth A division race. Sophomore skipper Mike Whitford and junior crew Caroline Hill finished 17th B division.
The spring sailing schedule has not been released yet, but after the fall season, the nationally ranked Shoremen (#16) have some work ahead of them if they want to climb the ranks and break into the top ten or even the top five.
