Swimming Hits 55 Straight Non-Conference Wins

The Shorewomen beat Salisbury 123-77 in their home opener on Nov. 11. This was their 23rd consecutive defeat against their rivals.

Junior captain Rachel Glasser won the 200 freestyle while also capturing the 100 butterfly. Senior captain Kathy Gerhart also won two events: the 100 freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Sophomore Jenna Moore took first place in the 50 freestyle and had the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.25. Freshman Sarah Sykes won the 500 and the 1000 freestyle while freshman Darcy Zink won the 100 backstroke.

During this meet the Shorewomen made season-best times in five different events. These accomplishments were made by Moore in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Gerhart in the 200 individual medley, Glasser in the 100 butterfly, and Zink in the 100 backstroke.

Senior captain Amy Smith and freshman Melanie Craig joined Glasser and Moore to win the 400 medley relay, adding points to the board. Sophomore Mary Stroman joined Zink, Sykes, and Gerhart to win the 400 freestyle relay recording a best time of 3:52.12. WC recorded six second best times and two third place finishes while the Shorewomen also took the top three places in two events to secure their win against Salisbury.

For their second win of the week, the Shorewomen beat St. Mary’s 110-95 accomplishing their 55th consecutive non-conference victory. Glasser won in the 500 freestyle with a best time of 5:13.24, while also winning the 1000 freestyle and the 200 freestyle. Sykes came in second in the 500 freestyle while Stroman followed her in third in the same event. Moore won the 100 breaststroke while Craig trailed her in second in the same event. Sophomores Morgan Phillips, Laura Risell, Ellen Liebenow, and Stroman won the 200 freestyle relay against the Seahawks. Gerhart won the 50 freestyle while also participating with Zink, Craig, and Moore to win the 200 medley relay in a WC season-best of 1:54.81. The Shorewomen excel to a 3-1 record after defeating Salisbury and St.Mary’s. Their next meet is home against Franklin and Marshall on Saturday at 1 p.m.
