The ABC’s of Fashion: All the Essentials

By Emily Perry

Elm Staff Writer

As the semester comes to a close, this will be my final article for a while, so I want us to take a step back to a time when life was simpler: Kindergarten. Yes, that’s right, where finals meant reciting our alphabet, coloring inside the lines, and writing our name in a straight line. In honor of that simple time, and in respect of the fact that this week is pretty stressful with projects, papers, and preparation for exams, I will be giving you the ABCs of style and fashion.

A is for ACCESSORIES—from bold to delicate they can pull any outfit together.

B is for BANGS—they frame your face perfectly.

C is for CHARITY—I am a firm believer that no matter what you buy, if you can get it and support a cause, what are you waiting for?

D is for DECADES OF GLAMOUR—the twenties, the thirties, the eighties...rewind some and enjoy the beauty of so many of their hit styles.

E is for EMBELLISHMENTS—whether it be bows, zippers, or a little glitter, let it shine and sparkle.

F is for FIT—fit is everything; without fit you can look sloppy.

G is for GO FOR THE GOLD—of course silver is good too, but gold is really flattering on all skin tones.

H is for HOUNDSTOOTH—the classic print that will never go out of style.

I is for INNOVATIONS—never be afraid to try something new when it comes to fashion.

J is for JEANS—skinny, straight, boot leg, flare; the possibilities are endless.

K is for KITTEN HEELS—perfect for the short or tall, they elongate the leg without being uncomfortable.

L is for LEGS—play them up: Mile long legs are in.

M is for MOD FLORAL PRINTS—because flowers should be around during all seasons.

N is for NECKLACE—gold, silver, chunky, thin; you name it, they have it, just the right amount of glitz.

O is for OPTICS—all eyewear is hot, hot, hot, so grab a pair of sunglasses and rock your shades.

P is for PATTERN—bold or simple, they can flatter your shape when picked correctly.

Q is for QUINTESSENTIALS—the blazer, the boots, the button down, the jeans, and the sweater.

R is for REFINED PURSES—feminine and polished, they complete any and all looks.

S is for SKIN—I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: your best accessory.

T is for TEETH—those pearly whites know how to make or break a picture; take care of them.

U is for UNDERGARMENTS—I can’t stress enough how important they are. Wear them; commando is a no no.

V is for VESTS—perfect for layering and keeping warm.

W is for WELLIES—I am a firm believer that everyone needs a pair of these; wet feet are the worst.

X is for X-QUISITE COLORS—the right color can do so much for a person, rich jewel tones especially.

Y is for YOUTH—we should enjoy it while its here; it won’t be here forever.

Z is for ZEBRA and other animal prints—they can spice up an outfit, but remember, only one piece or animal print is more than enough.

Have a great holiday and a Happy New Year. Good Luck on your finals.
