Are You Ready to Shoe-to-Shoe?

By Andrew Antonio

Elm Staff Writer

Members of the Washington College Students in Free Enterprise (WC SIFE) are holding a shoe drive competition to support the Perpetual Prosperity Pumps Foundation (PPPF), an organization that promotes sustainable farming in small villages in Ghana. Our goal for this competition is to collect 600 pairs of shoes so that we will be able to “adopt” a family in Ghana and follow up with them to measure the impact this initiative has in their lives.

We invite you to team up with other students in your dormitory or Greek organization to collect gently used athletic shoes (adult sizes 7 and up). You can pick up and fill out a team roster form in either the LFC or Hodson Hall Student Center, or simply send Michelle Moore (mmoore4@washcoll.edu) a list of the members on your team. We’ll acknowledge your team efforts in The Elm, so be sure to register. Student teams can consist of up to twenty members. The highest collecting dorm team and the highest collecting Greek team will win $10 Itunes gift cards for every participating member on their team. We’ll celebrate everyone’s participation with a DJ party at the end of the competition (location and date to be announced.

We’ve extended the competition to March 15, so start collecting today. You will have the opportunity to drop off your collected shoes on March 15 in Hodson Commons. Be creative; ask family, friends, professors, staff, and anyone else who might have a gently used pair of sneakers languishing in their closets to help. With your shoes, we can make a world of difference.
