On Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Litrenta Lecture Hall, award-winning photographer Mitch Epstein will explore the production and usage of energy in America. Epstein’s new work, “American Power,” delves deep into the American countryside while closely examining energy production sites and their surroundings.
Through photography, Epstein analyzes the power of nature, government, and corporations, all the while portraying the significant role they play in the mass consumption of energy in the United States. Epstein will reflect on his personal experiences completing the project and he will explain the role that the artist can play in exploring a controversial issue.
Epstein is one of the most renowned color photographers in America. He has authored six books and has had his works exhibited in various major museums across the country. In 2008, Epstein was awarded the Berlin Prize in Arts and Letters. Prior to that, he spent a portion of his career as a director and production designer on various films.
Please come to the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, the Center for Environment and Society, and the Department of Art and Art History welcome Mitch Epstein and his presentation of “American Power.”
