The Washington College women’s swimming team will try to extend its winning streak to five meets this weekend as it travels to Reisterstown, MD to face conference rival McDaniel. With a win at McDaniel and a mid-week home win against a tough Swarthmore squad on Feb. 10, the Shorewomen would have a six game winning streak heading into Conference Championships.
Last week the Shorewomen were able to drown out the home side Ursinus Bears 131-74. Leading the way was junior Captain Rachel Glasser. Glasser pulled off wins in all three of her events, the 1000 freestyle, the 100 butterfly, and the 500 freestyle, setting the pool record in the 1000 free.
Senior Captain Kathy Gerhart and sophomore Jenna Moore each won two of their events. Gerhart took the 200 medley and the 100 freestyle while Moore took the 50 freestyle and had a season’s best time in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomores Mary Stroman and Morgan Phillips each won one event, the 200 freestyle for Stroman and the 100 backstroke for Phillips.
Senior Captain Amy Smith joined Gerhart, Moore and Stroman to bring home first in the 200 medley relay. The Shorewomen got more points on the board from freshmen Sarah Sykes and Alix Batesko, finishing second in the 1000 freestyle and the 100 butterfly respectively.
The next home game, the last of the season for the Shorewomen, is Feb. 10. Stop by the pool to get a little wet and wild cheering for Sho’Mermaids.
